Friday afternoon I went up to get her from another non-nap nap. As I went up the stairs to her bedroom, I peeked under the dresser from the stairs to assess the damage ahead of time. Instead, I was greeted by two spread eagle butt cheeks and a big brown eye peeking back at me. There she was, in an upside-down V on her hands and feet with her head on the floor (as if she was going to attempt a hand stand, you know what I mean?), looking around behind her from in between her legs. It was quite the site to see, let alone the surprise factor, followed by my having to stifle gales of laughter to ask her why she was naked. Thank GOD there was no poop smeared on the walls or bed (again), though I fear this might be coming soon.
While I was out being attuned for Reiki today, Tony stayed home with the kids. Well, when he went up to get Gwen from her usual non-nap nap, he found something similar... but MUCH different. Gwen was pants-less (her jammies were two-piece vs the zippered sleeper she had on Friday), diaperless, and in bed but not sleeping. In the corner of her bedroom was her diaper, and a huge log right in front of it on the carpet. Come to find out, she took off her diaper BEFORE pooping, meaning that she understood that she didn't want to sit in a shitty diaper. Yet she pooped on the carpet, knowing that pooping on the carpet is naughty.
I know she's physically ready to potty train. She holds her pee for hours (seriously, it's like, 4-6 hours!!!), and is now pulling off her diaper when she has to go (usually just before or during evacuation), but won't use the potty anymore. So I am beside myself. Do I force the potty-training issue; get some help with the kids, put Gwen in some underwear and spend a week making her go every hour to train her? Or do I just let her "perfect" her "skills" while she shits and pisses all over the house, knowing that when she's really ready to go in the potty she'll ask to and we won't have to worry about accidents???
I am at a crossroads where I have some serious soul searching to do. I need wisdom and guidance. I have none. If anyone reading this has ANY ideas for me, I'd love to hear them. Please comment and tell me what worked for you, how you executed it, and any success/horror stories that were associated/what to expect!
Thanks and much love,
Fortunately my 2 1/2 year old isnt' going on the floor YET but isn't into the potty thing anymore (even with M&Ms). I will be curious what other people say!

Hi!! Love your blog. I love that you are real and don't sugar coat like some moms do :)
ReplyDeleteOkay... sounds to me like she needs a cool potty. Maybe if you got her a different potty she'd look at potty training as a new adventure? We got our twins potties that sing when they sit on them. And thought they aren't ready for potty training they aren't afraid of the toilet.
I also heard the potty book works too w/ the potty doll. I have seent them at Wal Mart
this post cracked me up. I have been where you have been with that little white butt sticking up in the air, mid poop. LOL!

I'd suggest getting a fill-in seat for the big toilet and a step so that she can go like mommy does. This worked well for us.
