Gwen's Birthday and a House Update

Gwen’s 4th birthday was last Thursday; I can’t believe she’s 4 years old already. I LOVE the age she’s at, and her maturity, but I hate that my baby is gone. No more snuggling in my arms, no more changing diapers, no more carrying her all over the place… okay, maybe I don’t really hate that my baby is gone; just the snuggly part. Gwen’s never really been a snuggler though so I can live with that.
Tony and I wanted to give her a fun birthday, something out of the norm, to make her feel special. We decided to take her to brunch, and then Build-A-Bear as her birthday present months ago. We got my in-laws to babysit, and we took her out, just the three of us, for a special day. She understands holidays and special dates now, and her awareness of time is getting better, so she was really excited and talked about turning four years old and getting to go out with just Mommy and Daddy for weeks!
We started the day at IHOP, and got her the chocolate chip pancake with a whipped cream smile, which she of course, loved! Then we were off to Toys R Us. We decided to take advantage of the fact that we got out alone with Gwen and took her to TRU to claim her potty training prize. We told her that when she went so many days (which she has since far exceeded) without an accident and in panties, that we would take her to the toy store and let her pick out anything she wanted that we said yes to, for being a big girl. She had originally been talking about a train, and we checked them out first but made her walk around the store before deciding so she could pick a few things she wanted and then narrow it down to one she would really, really want. She found a wooden Thomas the Tank Engine train set that she insisted was it. We made her keep looking. She found the Littlest Pet Shop shit, which she decided was all she ever wanted right off the bat and “let’s go home.” We made her keep looking. Then she found it… the thing she had wanted for so long, the thing she decided she wanted to have over every other toy in the store: the Disney Princess Magical Vanity. She was asking for it around Christmas time, and didn’t get it, and hadn’t mentioned it since. But as soon as she saw it, she said it was all she wanted and that we should leave the Littlest Pet Shop and train set behind. So we did. I’m so glad that we made her keep looking and she found something she loves!
After TRU we went to the mall for our first Build-A-Bear experience. It was cute enough, and fun for her, but I still don’t get the hype of going back 5 times a year so your kid can make another stuffed animal. To each his own, though. She looked at ALL the animals, and predictably picked the pony. We let her fully customize said pony, including a horse sound chip and all the full on fancy garb that any princess pony would wear. She HATED the stuffing machine (too noisy) and made a wish on the pony’s heart for a Pillow Pet. Figures. LOL Luckily, my mom got her one for her birthday, she just doesn’t know it yet! Then she washed and dried her and we picked out about $40 worth of clothes and accessories, from the princess hat to the Pegasus wings and everything in between. Gwen named her “Cutie” but soon after was calling her “Uni.” I’ve had to explain several times so far that unicorns are different than pegasuses and why did she name the horse “Cutie” if she wasn’t going to call it “Cutie?” LOL! Kids!
We finished off our day with a trip to Target where Gwen had a $10 gift card and we needed to pick up Cookie Crisp, since Her Highness requested it for her birthday dinner (LOL!). Which she plowed through in order to get to the Crumbs cupcakes I got for her and Tony’s birthdays. The poor kid didn't even get past a few sprinkles on top of the cupcake before she melted down, swore she was choking (giving me a panic attack in the midst of it all thinking she was having a peanut cross-contamination reaction; I pumped her full of Benadryl before she even got a chance to really react so I'm assuming it was just sheer exhaustion that drove her to freak) and demanded to lie on the couch and said she didn't like cake anymore. She immediately passed out. The POOR kiddo!!! We had to wake her up, vigorously, and surprised her with the Princess Vanity we had put together while she was out cold. She played with it for a few minutes before asking to go up to her bed. AWE!! Such a good kid!

After we got home from Target, and before dinner, had a last minute showing on our house. We were JUST discussing not selling the house and instead adding a floor to accomodate a main-floor living room and 3-4 bedrooms and at least 1 bathroom upstairs. I literally e-mailed my realtor and when she replied she asked if I got her text message that she had someone who wanted to see the house. Weird. I told her we were super busy since Tony was on vaca but she persisted so I gave in, making sure to tell her that the house would not be in its regular showing state of cleanliness. So we swept the counters into plastic shopping bags with our arms, stashed the shit on the counter to open up space, and tidies up the bedrooms. No vacuuming, no steam mop, no laundry, no toilet cleaning. We got home 20 minutes prior to the showing and managed to make it look "nice." We shooed everyone (including the out-laws) to the backyard just as the people were showing up.
Wouldn't you know... they LOVED IT!!!!
The next day we got a full price offer, and signed it post haste! What fucking luck! Our realtor even said, "Watch. You guys have no time to obsess and this is going to be the one that buys it." and she was RIGHT!!! Even better, we were able to renegotiate with the sellers of Big Blue House down $15,000 (Holy Shit! I never thought they'd go for it!) so that we could afford to move. YAY!!!! As always, everything seems to be falling into place, working out exactly as it should be. Hooray!
Tomorrow we go to have the house inspected, and sometime at the end of this week or beginning of next week we will have the appraisal done on our current home to make sure it appraises, and as long as it does we only have to get through the home inspection before we can officially say we're moving! Our closing date right now is August 12th. Get this... it was around this time last year that wee started looking at houses online, wondering if we should bite the moving bullet or not, and when I first saw BBH on NNEREN. I have been WAITING to move into this house for a year now. It HAS to go through. It HAS to be perfect. I feel like I've more than paid my dues for my dream house.

It's late and I have to be bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning, so I'm closing up shop for now. I'll try to hop back on and update on the inspection, plus I have a few interesting kid stories to share. Go figure. LOL Later!

Much love,
